Film reviews 'surrealism'

Dumbo The Elephant

it is a children's animated film, with a scene made up of surreal pieces, it was like a delusion, i bet any child would be confused as well as happy and excited at the colourful screen and movements. it is a weird cartoon  something some high on some drugs would make or see.

Un chien d' Andalou

It was weirdly funny with all the animals occurring and the time changing in a blink of eye. all this was happening while the man's wife was asleep. it made him think he was going mad and seeing things that were not really happening but it actually was happening

Phantom of liberty

I didn't really like it with all the ear chopping  and cutting of the eye balls and all the different toilets etc. so it isn't to my personal taste I would not watch it ever again although some parts were contently funny but I still do not like it, whoever made it was a psychopath and disturbingly weird.

Clarissa is a girl I know who is into fashion/ fashion photography & art and has her own blog and uploads pictures of outfits and what to buy, latest trends on what’s new on the cat walk also in high fashion. She tends to mix a lot of today’s style with vintage wear. I love her look as it is similar to my taste and what I would wear but I am on the more glam/vintage side then vintage/preppy/boy London, her style is unique and refreshing and she is quite well known for what she does.

Susie does often post Chinese fashion too as that is the country she is originally from.

How did Surrealism start?

Surrealism first started in Europe 1920’s after the First World War, with its nucleus in Paris. Its roots were found in dada, but it was less violent and more artistically based.

Surrealist art movement combined elements of its predecessors, Dada and cubism, to create something unknown to the art world. The movement was first rejected, but its eccentric ideas and unique techniques paved the way for a new form of art.

Firstly surrealism was the work of writers and poets, the French poet, André Brenton whom is known as ‘ The Pope of Surrealism’, he wrote the Surrealist manifesto to describe how he wanted to combine to consciousness and sub-consciousness  into  a new ‘absolute reality’, de la Croix 708.

Brenton first used the word surrealism to describe work found to be a ‘fusion of elements of fantasy with elements of the modern world to form a superior reality’.  The first ever exhibition of surreal paintings was held in the year 1952, though its ideas were rejected. Brenton set up an International Exhibition of Surrealism in New York, which then took the place of Paris as the centre of the Surrealist movement (Pierre I).

Soon surrealist ideas were given new life and became an influence over young artists in the United States and Mexico. The ideas of Surrealism were bold and new to the art world and so forth it expanded and more artists’ came along to carry on the art of surrealism.

The art movemen of 'Surrealism'

The art movement of surrealism I think is to do with ones imagination with a combination of delusional, childhood fantasies and dreams. Think surreal art is quite eccentric and that the person’s mind is not all there like he/she is high on a drug as when taking drugs you can only see these sort of things. In surreal work it is expected to see un-expected combinations of surreal art. I think it is quite unusual but then again smart the way something so unrealistically impossible is put together and made to look realistic. Personally I would love to explore this side of art more but not too deep just to have fun with and experiment as it abnormal but interesting. Here are a few photographs of other artists work of surrealism.
